Our Strategy
We partner with citizens, civil society and government to build democratic governance systems that advance rule of law, civic participation and justice for every Liberian.
At IDAD Liberia, we work to strengthen the institutions, systems, and citizen engagement that democracy depends on. Our programmes are grounded in the belief that sustainable governance comes from within communities when citizens are informed, empowered, and able to hold their leaders accountable.
Beginning in Liberia's hardest-to-reach communities, we have partnered with government and civil society to strengthen democratic institutions and build civic participation across all 15 counties. Our programmes connect citizens to governance processes, legal aid, and civic education, empowering them to hold leaders accountable and participate meaningfully in democratic life.
Today, our work is demonstrating that it is possible to build strong governance systems in even the most challenging environments. Together, we develop and implement interventions that improve democratic participation while strengthening legal institutions, with an emphasis on evidence-based approaches to governance reform.
In Liberia's most underserved communities, strong democratic governance saves lives and builds lasting peace.
As democratic governance faces growing challenges globally, we are scaling what works: high-impact civic education and legal aid delivered by trusted community partners. Throughout our current strategic period, IDAD will deepen our impact across Liberia and strengthen the governance systems that protect every citizen's rights.
Our approach will build cost-effective, resilient, sustainable systems that will drive progress toward democratic governance for all, centred on those who need it most.
Our Research →Guided by our three-part strategy, we will realize our mission by working to:
Facing far fewer resources than international donors, civil society organisations need solutions that are cost-effective, locally led, and built to last. Already, IDAD is working alongside government partners to strengthen democratic institutions through civic education, legal aid, and policy advocacy, innovation while advocating for increased domestic funding.
Supporting more citizens to participate in democratic governance is a crucial step forward, but what we are doing is far bigger than this. We are catalysing a continent-wide shift in how democratic governance is delivered and financed, ushering in a sea change for hundreds of thousands of citizens, now and for years to come.
